Provides intensive, individualized life skills help to youth age 16-21 to help you prepare for living on your own as a young adult. Centerboard is a community based organization that supports families and young people through housing, access to employment and education, and financial empowerment. We work with parents and teens to achieve independence by providing trauma informed care and case management. In addition, we work with local residents, businesses and elected officials to increase economic opportunity in the community.
Boston-area students planning for higher education can come to a College Planning Center—located in Boston, Brockton, and Chelsea—for guidance on choosing a college, applying for financial aid and scholarships, managing money, and choosing a major or a career. We work to give consumers the information they need to understand the terms of their agreements with financial companies. We are working to make regulations and guidance as clear and streamlined as possible so providers of consumer financial products and services can follow the rules on their own.
We also provide academic coaches and personal mentors, enabling them to enjoy a college completion rate many times that of their peers who lack such support.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $53,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
In addition to VITA, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program offers free tax help for all taxpayers, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with non-profit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.

The Graduate Tuition Waiver is another component of the Single Tuition Waiver program that provides incentives to individuals to enroll in graduate programs at Massachusetts public colleges and universities.

JVS provides skills, jobs and careers for diverse populations in MA. The Work Place, our one stop career center provides job search support. We offer disability services, Refugee ESOL & Rapid Employment, ESOL, Skills Training in Certified Nursing Assitant & Pharmacy Technician, Adult (High School) Diploma Program, and Bridges to College for college transitions.
Lost Coin Women’s Fund, Inc. (LCWF) supports academic opportunities for low-income Massachusetts women by providing Grants for undergraduate studies or vocational training programs. Grants are awarded up to $1,000.00. Payments are made directly to schools or programs, in the name of the grant recipients. Acceptance will be decided within four months from the date of receipt of completed application. Only one scholarship per applicant is allowed. The Fund does not give grants for payment of loans or past courses; only for courses not yet taken. Items such as books, and equipment for nurses, etc. can be considered as part of the LCWF grant request. There is no age limit for women applying for this scholarship. Must be MA state resident.
LSA provides shelter and support services to homeless individuals and families in the Greater Lynn area, fostering their self-sufficiency and a return to an independent life.

More adults now find themselves needing to return to the classroom on a less than full-time basis. The continuous increase in college costs is also requiring more students to reconsider their enrollment plans and to look at part-time programs as viable alternatives. The Commonwealth has recognized the above needs and established the Part Time-Grant program to serve as a bridge between higher education opportunities and those segments of the Massachusetts population.
The One Family Scholars program is a comprehensive college scholarship program for low-income single parents who are earning Associate’s or Bachelor’s degrees in Massachusetts. In addition to financial support, we provide coaching and counselling to help Scholars throughout college and into their career.

The William Warren Scholarship Program provides scholarships for educational and vocational programs to any youth under age 25 who was in the care/custody of DCF for a minimum of one year. Scholarships range from $250 to $4000. Both current and former DCF youth are eligible.
