Foster Care to Success

Foster Care to Success Sponsored Scholarships – This program is funded by organizations, individuals and families across the country, giving them the opportunity to help fund foster youths' postsecondary education so they can achieve brighter futures.

  • $1,500 provides books and supplies for one student for one year
  • $2,500 helps a community college student attend classes for one year
  • $5,000 helps a university student attend classes for one year

Free Tax Return Preparation for Qualifying Taxpayers

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $53,000 or less, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

In addition to VITA, the Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program offers free tax help for all taxpayers, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. The IRS-certified volunteers who provide tax counseling are often retired individuals associated with non-profit organizations that receive grants from the IRS.

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) National Help Center, founded in 1996, is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides vital peer-support, community connections and resource information to people with questions regarding sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Utilizing a diverse group of GLBT volunteers, we operate two national hotlines, the GLBT National Hotline and the GLBT National Youth Talkline, as well as private, volunteer one-to-one online chat, that helps both youth and adults with coming-out issues, safer-sex information, school bullying, family concerns, relationship problems and a lot more.

Emergency Shelter and transitional housing. Lazarus House Ministries' Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen feeds 225 people daily. Lost Coin Women's Fund Scholarship

Lost Coin Women’s Fund, Inc. (LCWF) supports academic opportunities for low-income Massachusetts women by providing Grants for undergraduate studies or vocational training programs. Grants are awarded up to $1,000.00. Payments are made directly to schools or programs, in the name of the grant recipients. Acceptance will be decided within four months from the date of receipt of completed application. Only one scholarship per applicant is allowed. The Fund does not give grants for payment of loans or past courses; only for courses not yet taken. Items such as books, and equipment for nurses, etc. can be considered as part of the LCWF grant request. There is no age limit for women applying for this scholarship. Must be MA state resident.
