Lawyers in CPCS’s Children and Family Law Division (CAFL) represent children and parents in cases in which the Department of Children and Families (DCF) removes children from their homes because of claims of neglect or abuse. CAFL also provides lawyers to children and parents in child requiring assistance (CRA) cases and some private guardianship cases.

Parenting Education and Support Programs help parents with young children enhance the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to be the best parents they can be. Group-based series are led by trained professionals and provide opportunities for parents to learn new skills, connect with peers, and receive information and resources.

Boston-area students planning for higher education can come to a College Planning Center—located in Boston, Brockton, and Chelsea—for guidance on choosing a college, applying for financial aid and scholarships, managing money, and choosing a major or a career. The number of foster care scholarships continues to grow, and the early part of the century saw several states codify new assistance and tuition waiver programs for foster kids and adoptees.

COMPASS offers a community-based jobs program for homeless parents.
