Carpool to Foster Alumni Walk

Walk 1 Mile on Boston Common!

We believe that everyone knows someone who was in foster care even if they aren't aware that their bus driver, child's school teacher, partner/spouse or colleague at work experienced foster care.

PROGRAM SPEAKERS - 10 AM:

"People need to be seen. They need to be heard to know that they're not alone and that their experience is common. This is about coming out of the darkness. At times people feel ashamed that something was quote unquote not 'normal'. By the way this all is the definition of family and who we are as a community." - Tito Jackson Former Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson, who is a foster care alum and adopted person.

'Foster Care Alumni' are people who can answer 'yes' to the following questions:

  1. Are you 18 - Ageless?
  2. Did you experience 'foster care' for any period of time in any US state or country in the world?

NOTE: 'Foster Care' means a government or a social service agency removes a person from the care of their biological parents of origin and places them in a variety of settings which can include foster homes, group care and kinship care (aka other family members). Foster care alumni may also have been reunified (aka return home), be guardianed or adopted following time in foster care or continue with DCF after the age of 18.

Developing a community for current and former foster youth is imperative for feelings of belonging and security. Our mission is to create these communities and provide opportunities for current and former foster youth to provide a safety net and unite those of us who have these shared experiences.

We're walking to educate both alumni and friends of foster care about who's included in the definition of 'foster care alumni'. The movement of foster care alumni across the country is fairly new and the definition of who's included is not widely known.

Everyone deserves to feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves. So, we created this campaign for everyone to contribute at various impact levels. Be sure to review the ways you can make an impact and please share this page with your family and friends.

Your involvement is critical to our success. By donating, you can help create networks for the most vulnerable, and yet those exhibiting the most fervent strength, in our society.
